16 December 2020 – A dialogue session co-organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) through Centre of Agri-Food Science and Technology (CrAFT), and Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) was held today to foster collaborative research activities between university and Food & Beverages (F&B) industries.
The session was held between the Food Science and Technology (FST) programme area from the School of Applied Sciences & Mathematics (SASM) with DARe’s Elevate Programme participants.
The purpose of the session was to provide insights to the F&B companies under DARe’s Elevate Programme from FST programme academia, access research expertise for product and process innovation, develop solutions for their product from an academic point of view and skills-match students for industrial placement.
Amongst those who attended the event were Yang Mulia Mr Javed Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of DARe; FST lecturers and students; and some of the companies under DARe’s Elevate Programme First Cohort namely Mr. Baker’s Bakeshop, NOICE, A. Ayam Berjaya Restaurant, Taurean Bakeshop & Café, Tasconi’s International Sdn Bhd, Subbstation Restaurant & Catering Sdn Bhd, Pan & Wok, Sabli Food Industries Sdn Bhd, Superfish Growers Sdn Bhd, Superwater Marketing Sdn Bhd and Fuel’d Restaurant & Catering.
The session began with a welcoming remark by Yang Mulia Professor Dr Beston Faek Nore, Director of CrAFT, where he introduced the progress of the Research & Development activities of FST students.
Delivering a speech by DARe was Yang Mulia Dayang Nurul Ain Jaafar, Senior Manager of Enterprise Growth (Business Advisory and Services), urged academicians and F&B DARe Elevate Programme participants to work together for better outcomes in terms of translational research that could be useful and applied in the Food & Beverage industry.
During the dialogue session, the attendees were also briefed by UTB on the overview of CrAFT, and the Food Science and Technology programme area. It then proceeded with presentations by twelve undergraduate students from FST on their respective food research projects.
Programme Elevate is a customised growth programme under DARe aimed to facilitate and nurture promising MSME towards sustainable growth and international expansion through tailored assistance with the element of business coaching, mentorship, technology and development, funding, and internationalisation.
