UTB HOSTS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY

10 October 2019 – In promoting community involvement in raising awareness of mental health, World Mental Health Day being observed annually on 10 October around the globe. To celebrate this occasion at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), the Counselling Unit of the Student Affairs Office, in collaboration with ExCo Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) hosted a Mental Health Day awareness.

This event include the showcase of Mental Health Awareness posters, interactive games and activities, and food vendors which was held at the White Canopy and Concourse of the University and it was organised in conjunction with the UTB 6th Convocation Festival, with a tagline #2UsYouMatter. As a show of solidarity, green ribbons were also distributed around the campus.

The Guest of Honour for the event was Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Noor Maya binti Hj Md Salleh, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of UTB. Also present were Principal Officers, staff and students. All attendees donned a touch of green to show their support.

The event began with the viewing of the video presentation of Mental Health by World Health Organisation (WHO) followed by the exhibition of ten posters by UTB students as part of the Mental Health Awareness Poster Competition where the submission of the posters were held since August until 30 September 2019.

The Guest of Honour then presented the prizes to three winners, first place went to Dayang Hennastysha binti Abdul Latip from School of Computing and Informatics (SCI); for second place went to Swee Sze Yu @ Yvonne from Faculty of Engineering (FEng), and Alvin Yong Chie Yew from SCI bagged third place. The winners were chosen via online voting which was open to public. The winning poster was officiated as the poster for Mental Health Awareness Day in UTB.

This event aims on bringing the UTB community together to celebrate positive well being and encourage people to seek immediate help to reduce the impact of mental illness of an individual’s life.
