19 October 2019 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held the closing ceremony of the fifth UTB Sports Fiesta 2019 today at the Padang Dan Belapan Sports Complex, Berakas. The sports fiesta was organised by the Executive Committee (EXCO) of Sports, of the Student Representative Council UTB (Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar UTB).
Yang Mulia Awang Haji Ady Syarmin bin Hj Md Taib, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB was present as the Guest of Honour at the Closing Ceremony. At the ceremony, the medals were presented to the winners for each sports category, and Dr. Dayang Hajah Noor Maya binti Hj Md Salleh, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic) presented the trophy to the overall winner of the 5th UTB Sports Fiesta 2019, Team CrtiV.
Before the closing ceremony, a series of track events were held, tug-of-war, and field performance by each team. In this year’s UTB Sports Fiesta 2019, ‘Team Xlr8’, ‘Team Pro-Xtiv’, ‘Team CrtiV’ and ‘Team XCel’ competed in various sports.
The UTB Sports Fiesta 2019 was officially opened on 14 September 2019 at the Multipurpose Hall, UTB, by the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Yang Mulia Dr. Dayang Hajah Noor Maya binti Hj Md Salleh. The sports fiesta was participated by staff and students of UTB, and competed in 11 sports events, which include touch rugby, basketball, dodgeball, Frisbee, E-Sports (online games), futsal, netball, badminton, volleyball, tug-of-war and track and field.
UTB Sports Fiesta is a biennial sports event organised by Executive Committees (EXCO) Sports, one of the Executive Committees under the UTB Student Representative Council. The event was aimed to elevate the university’s profile in sports, instilling solidarity and camaraderie amongst UTB citizens, and to identify sports talents amongst UTB students for participation in future championships and tournaments at national and international level.
