UTB Industry Lecture Series Kickstart with Talk On Megastructures by Deputy Minister of Development
Universiti Teknologi Brunei’s inaugural industry lecture series commenced today with the first talk entitled ‘Megastructures: Issues and Challenges’ by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi Bin Haji Gafar, Deputy Minister of Development. The talk was attended by academic staff and students of the Civil Engineering programme as well as other staff and students from the Faculty of Engineering.
The ‘Industry Lecture Series’ is one of UTB’s new initiatives under the ProAdvance Unit. Invited industry practitioners will deliver lectures on various topics related to science and engineering weekly. The aims of the lecture series are: to give exposure to students on the latest technology in the industry; to help students to be up-to-date with current developments in the engineering industry; and to showcase successful professionals as ‘role-models’ by recognising their contribution to the industry.
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi started working in the Public Works Department (PWD) in 1985 holding many directorship posts in PWD. He previously served as Director of Road Department (2001-2003); Director of Development (2003-2005); Director of Water Services (2005-2008); Director of Drainage and Sewerage Department (2008); Deputy Director General (2008-2009) and Director General of Public Works Department (2009-2010). Dato was appointed as Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional), Ministry of Development in December, 2010 until he retired in August, 2015. In October 2015, Dato was appointed as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Development by His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam until now.
