As universities worldwide face unprecedented challenges due to the global pandemic, universities around the world including UTB had to respond by activating their Business Continuity Plan (BCP) in ensuring the continuity of their teaching and research mission, including shifting towards online and remote instructions. At UTB, blended teaching and learning – a mix of face-to-face and online learning were also successfully being implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of the university’s community.
Despite these formidable challenges, UTB continues to rise in the world’s leading university ranking, Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QSWUR) 2022 by 6 places positioning UTB at the 344th place and performed among the top 27% in the QSWUR 2022. Since 2019, UTB has climbed up 98 places. Over the four considered years, the university moved up three times and did not present negative performances.
This achievement has placed UTB above other international prestigious universities which include Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) and George Washington University in the United States; Brunel University in the United Kingdom; Kazan Federal University and Ural Federal in Russia; University of Stuttgart in Germany; The Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria; UCSI University in Malaysia and others.
The latest edition of the QSWUR provide authoritative comparative analysis on the performance of the world’s top 1300 universities with 145 new entrants. 6415 institutions were nominated for evaluation, 3775 evaluated as eligible, and only 1673 were analysed. The results also account for the distribution and performance of 14.7 million academic papers published between 2015 and 2019, and the 96 million citations received by those papers.
The participating institutions were assessed based on six performance key indicators including its strengths in Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Students Ratio.
According to the report by QS, UTB improved five out of the six performance indicators from the previous editions where UTB performed particularly well in the Faculty Student Ratio. At 67 globally, the ratio has moved up twelve places which makes it the strongest indicator for UTB this year with a score of 93.4%. This indicator is the ratio between the number of academic staff and number of students. This achievement reflects UTB’s continuous commitment in providing high-quality teaching to its students.
