6 June 2021 – Three teams representing UTB grabbed first, second and third place in the Floating Waste Collector Conceptual Design Competition organised by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, The Ministry of Development.
The competition aims to harness the skills and expertise of the Higher Education Institutions in Brunei Darussalam to design and customise cost-effective solution in creating prototype technology in protecting and conserving Brunei’s environment in the long term.
Team Simpur won First place and received $3000 in Category B. The category focuses on the theme of Floating Trapping Mechanism.
At the same time, Team Gambit and Team Focal Point won second and third place, receiving $3000 and $1000 respectively in category A with the theme of Skimmer Boat. Both categories required participants to invent a conceptual design for a mechanism or prototype to trap floating waste.
