19 November 2019 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Balai Sarmayuda, DBP, Berakas.
Signing the MoU on behalf of UTB was Yang Mulia Awang Haji Ady Syarmin bin Hj Md Taib, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB, while DBP was represented by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak, Acting Director of DBP.
The signing was witnessed by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS).
Also present were Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at KKBS, Yang Mulia Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud; senior government officials; and principal officers of UTB.
Under the MOU, UTB and DPB will work together to develop Corpus Management System and Dictionary Management System. The Dictionary Management system specialises in Brunei Malay Language will be translated and implemented into other dialect dictionaries. With the existence of the digital system, not only will it be useful to promote Malay language through online dictionary but the innovation would also ease work network among lexicographers to digitalise text corpus of research fields, said Dayang Hajah Sariani. She also mentioned that this signing creates a synergy that will be a progress factor towards digitalising cultural treasures especially in Malay language and literature.
