1 October 2019 – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month taking place in October, talks on breast cancer awareness were held at the Lecture Theatre 2, UTB Library Complex. The event was co-organised by Student Affairs Office of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and UTB Student Representative Council (MPPUTB) in conjunction with the UTB 6th Convocation Festival.
About 50 attendees comprising of Principal Officers, staff and students of UTB gathered and dressed up in pink in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness. The talks were presented by the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group (BBCSG).
The invited speaker, Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin, President of BBCSG delivered a talk on Life Experience of a Breast Cancer Journey by sharing an inspiring story of her fight with breast cancer from diagnosis to remission, while, Yang Mulia Datin Hajah Jaliha binti Haji Momin, Secretary of BBCSG explained on Creating Awareness of Breast Cancer by educating the audience about the importance of breast cancer screenings, early detection and healthy living. Breast cancer is not something that only affects women, it also develops in men in which any abnormality in the breast should be brought to the attention of doctors or health care providers.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Brunei according to the Secretary of BBCSG. She added that by raising awareness about cancer, we able to educate, inspire and empower people to understand the disease and promote early detection.
BBCSG is a non-profit group of breast cancer survivors, volunteers and medical professionals who are committed in providing emotional support, comprehensive information and counseling to those impacted by cancer.
