UTB HOSTS LSDP 2019 CERTIFICATE PRESENTATION CEREMONY AND LIBRARY BOOK BAZAAR

26 September 2019 – A Certificate Presentation ceremony for the Library Staff Development Programme (LSDP) 2019 was held at the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Library Complex.

Present as the Guest of Honour at the Certificate Presentation ceremony was Yang Mulia Dayang Elizah binti Radin Mas Ismail, Acting Registrar and Secretary of UTB. Also present at the ceremony was the Senior Librarian of UTB Library, Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Pusparaini bin Hj Thani, staff of the University and guests.

A total of 44 participants from 16 libraries around the country received their certificates from the Guest of Honour. The programme comprised of seven workshops that took place from 7 until 25 September 2019 at the Training Room of UTB Library Complex facilitated by Yang Mulia Madam Thulasimani Munohsamy, who has 20 years of experience in teaching and training in Brunei and overseas. The programme was aimed to enhance the organisational and communication skills, work effectively in a team and explore self-management techniques amongst librarians and information workers in the country.

Also at the UTB library, another event was organised in conjunction with the 6th UTB Convocation Festival – the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Library Book Bazaar (ULBB) 2019.

This year, nine participating vendors joined the bazaar which include Attorney General’s Chambers Law, Prime Minister’s Office; Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA); Kolej Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU-SB); National Standards Centre from Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industries (MEMI); Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei; Early Childhood Publications Co.; Joy Sim Collection; Asfi Book World Sdn Bhd; and Bloombyf.bn. selling books, stationaries and apparels. Other food vendors also participated at the event.

Some of the genre of the books being sold at the bazaar include education, religion, Brunei history, languages, food recipes, children’s books and more. The bazaar aims to enrich the library collection with latest published academic books, references and general topics on different fields and to enhance the community awareness on the empowerment of knowledge and reading culture as a source of inspiration for lifelong learning in our daily lives.

The bazaar started on 24 until 28 September 2019 except on Friday, 27 September 2019 at the UTB Library Complex from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The ULBB is open to all staff and students of the University. Members of the public are also welcomed to come and join the bazaar.
