14 September 2019 – The opening ceremony for the 5th Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Sports Fiesta was held at the Multipurpose Hall, UTB. The ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Yang Mulia Dr. Dayang Hajah Noor Maya binti Hj Md Salleh.
The event began with recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and opening speech by Chairperson of 5th UTB Sports Fiesta, Yang Mulia Awang Muhammad Haziq bin Haji Hamzulani followed by the launching ceremony by the Guest of Honour with the kalimah “Bismillahirahmanirahim” and a push of a button. It proceeded with flag hoisting of the four teams namely Xlr8 (Blue), Crtiv (Grey), Pro-Xtiv (Purple) and Xcel (Yellow). The reading of the Sports pledge was led by Yang Mulia Abdul Ilaah bin Anver, President of the Frisbee Club.
The Sports Fiesta will be held for about 5 weeks from 12 September 2019 to 14 October 2019 comprising of touch rugby, basketball, dodgeball, Frisbee, E-Sports (online games), futsal, netball, badminton, volleyball, tug of war and track and field. These sporting events will take place at various venues which include the UTB Multipurpose Hall, Silver Jubilee Court, Public Works Department (JKR) Multipurpose Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Sports Complex, Stadium Padang and Belapan, Batu Bersurat Basketball Arena, and Jerudong Sports Complex.
UTB Sports Fiesta is a biennial sports event organised by Executive Committees (EXCO) Sports, one of the Executive Committees under the UTB Student Representative Council. With the EXCO Sports’ vision of bringing people together and to expose new students to what university life has to offer, this year’s slogan for the 5th Sports Fiesta will be “Discovery Your Truest Potential” that aims to identify hidden sports talents amongst students who have potential in representing UTB in various sports events either locally, regionally or internationally.
