4 May 2019 – The UTB School of Business (UTB-SB) organised the Second UTB Graduate Colloquium 2019 at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library Complex, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).

The colloquium aimed to encourage graduate students across faculty and schools to push the frontier of knowledge; forge new research collaborations, and network with their peers and established scholars from their field of study. It was also held to act as a platform for the graduates to engage and interact with fellow colleagues as well as the panel of experienced researchers so as to encourage participation and generation of research ideas for impactful research.

The one-day event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Yang Mulia Ustaz Mohd Fazalley bin Hj Hidup followed by a welcoming speech by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Awang Hj Ady Syarmin bin Hj Md Taib, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB.

In his speech, the Guest of Honour highlighted about Industry Revolution 4.0, how technologies are changing the employment and industry landscape where Education 4.0 is the response of the education community, particularly Universities, to the transformations brought about by the fourth industrial revolution.

The Guest of Honour also added that ‘Collaboration’ is the keyword in this Education 4.0 era where it is envisaged that academic research is an ‘enormous interconnected web of students, faculty, independent researchers and industry’ pooling together knowledge and expertise, open-source data, funding, computing power, technologies, and other resources towards achieving research excellence.

The event proceeded with a talk by Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr. Larry Su from UTB-SB that focused on the Guide to Starting Good Research followed by presentations from 16 graduate students. The students also showcased their work in the form of posters at a mini-exhibition just outside the venue.
