25 April 2019 – Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd held a briefing session at the School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) Lecture Theatre.
Present at the session was Yang Mulia Ms. Voon Nyuk Hiong, Director of Industry Liaison Office; staff and students of the University. The briefing session was led by Yang Mulia Miss Kitty Yong Siew Wen, the Public Relations Manager of Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd to give an insight about the ‘Seeds for the Future’ flagship programme and to offer internship opportunities to the students with Computing and Engineering background.
‘Seeds for the Future’ is Huawei’s global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) flagship programme that will be held for two weeks in China, fully sponsored by Huawei inclusive of two-week study trip in Beijing and Shenzhen, round-trip air ticket between homeland and China, train ticket from Beijing to Shenzhen, accommodation, food, on site transportation and national historical sites tour.
The programme has been operating in Brunei since 2015. This immersive programme seeks to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer and promote a better understanding of and interest in ICT sector.
The two-week study trip includes learning Mandarin at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), experience the latest technologies and receive ICT training at Huawei Headquarters, visit Huawei exhibition halls and watch the up-to-date ICT solution demonstrations. The selected students will also get the chance to explore Chinese culture and the ancient capital city of China, and discover the dynamic and diversified Shenzhen.
As for the selection process, the undergraduate students will be shortlisted based on the relevancy of their degree courses and its relativity to Telco. The shortlisted students will be interviewed and screened further to be selected as one of the top 6 students to represent Brunei to join the programme in China. The programme will commence from 29 June to 13 July 2019 this year.
Other than the ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme, Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd also offers Internship programme to the final year students with the duration of at least 16 weeks (4 months), maximum 24 weeks (6 months). The internship programme will be at the Huawei Brunei Office.
The briefing ended with the alumni of ‘Seeds of the Future 2018 & 2017’ sharing their experiences to the audiences followed by an interactive question and answer session. Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd also donated a notable resource Huawei Dedication book to the UTB Library.
