Cyber Security Workshop

28 August 2017 - The School of Computing and Informatics hosted a two-day Cyber Security Workshop conducted by Mr Nimalan Sivananthan, and Mr Mahesa Sankarra. Both trainers are EC-Council Certified Instructor (CEI), Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), CompTIA Technical Trainer (CTT), and Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) Certified Trainer. The workshop was attended by lecturers, staff and students of the School.

The topics covered during the workshop include: Introduction to Cyber Security (Inside the mind of Hacker); Love is in the air (Wireless Hacking); Information Gathering (Hacking Lifecylce); and SQL Ninja (Using SQL Injection to bypass login).

Mr Nimalan Sivananthan has more than 10 years of experience in implementing Internet Security and High Availability solutions, and has been conducting technical courses in Internet Security solutions for over 10 years. Mr Nimalan has worked with multiple companies in Malaysia, and internationally such as Perushaan Otomobil Nasional (PROTON); PT Gobel National Indonesia; Matsushita Electric Industry, Japan; and EJEMC, Cairo, to name a few.

Mr Mahesa Sankarra is the Senior Technical trainer of Sakra Academy (M) Sdn Bhd, and Managing Director of I SEC Academy (M) Sdn Bhd. Mr Mahesa has been in the IT Industry since 2008, and has years of experience working with business and management, IT Services, and end Users. He shares his passion in Microsoft Server Systems, Microsoft System Centre Operations, Security Infrastructure, Cisco routing and switching. He has conducted classes across universities and organisations in Malaysia.

The objective of the workshop is to increase knowledge and awareness of Cyber Security. It is also hoped to provide the students with an added value giving them an edge in the industry once they have graduated with the certification.
