2 August 2021 – A total of BND$10,000 collected from the participants of this year’s Varsity Run event and donated to the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund. The contribution was handed over to Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports during a handing over ceremony at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
The charity run event that was held on 25 July 2021 was organised in conjunction with the 75th Birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU-SB). At the event, the cheque was presented by Yang Mulia Datin Dr. Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD; Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA; Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB; and Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Ra’es of KUPU-SB.
Also present to witness the handover ceremony were Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community & Culture), Yang Mulia Dayang Saidah binti Haji Wahid, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Community) and senior officers from UBD, UNISSA, UTB, KUPU-SB and MCYS.
Around 1000 participants joined the Varsity Run’s 2.5km Fun Run/Walk and 18.75km Elite Run, included senior officials, lecturers, staff and students of the institutions and members of the public.
The charity run covered a total distance of 75km in accordance with His Majesty’s celebrated age. The concept of cumulative distance running between the four higher education institutions was introduced where each institution or its representatives to run an equal distance of 18.75km in order to complete the distance.
