11 June 2021 – High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Ajaneesh Kumar hosted a dinner at ‘India House’ on Friday to present cash awards to the Bruneian delegation at the ASEAN-India Online Hackathon 2021 held on February 1-3.
The Bruneian contingent, comprising Muhammad Fauzan bin Haji Salleh, Muhammad Munawwir bin Awang Sohot, Lai Jia Shyan (Emily), Muhammad Hassanul Ariffin Haji Ibrahim, Siti Aisah binti Janaji and Nurin Jazlina Jafry, from the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), were part of the various winning teams. In addition, Siti Aisah, who led Team 40, was declared as the runner-up.
UTB Assistant Professor Dr Wida Susanty binti Haji Suhaili, who mentored Team 19 was also named the runner-up.
The recently-concluded Hackathon was also attended by Brunei Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, who participated via a pre-recorded video message, played out on February 4 at the prize distribution ceremony.
For 36 hours, 330 students and 110 mentors from the 10 ASEAN countries and India worked together online and competed as 55 teams to come up with innovative solutions to 11 problem statements. They covered two major themes – blue economy and education.
The multinational character paved the ways for the fostering of collaborative spirit as well as diverse cultures, values and work ethics.
Winners in all 11 problem statements were announced at the ceremony, with the total prize money at USD33,650.
