5 May 2021 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) continues to strive further in strengthening its international links with prestigious universities worldwide by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratory (NCL) of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
In light of the pandemic, the virtual signing event was hosted by the School of Computing, NUS via video conference.
Present as the Guest of Honour to witness the signing ceremony was Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB.
Signing on behalf of UTB was Yang Mulia Dr Mohamad Saiful bin Hj Omar, Dean of School of Computing & Informatics (SCI) while NUS was represented by Yang Mulia Professor Mohan Kankanhalli, Dean of NUS Computing.
Prior to the signing, the Deans from both universities delivered their speeches highlighting the prospect activities in Cybersecurity and their hopes to expand the collaboration scopes of this partnership wider.
According to Dr Mohamad Saiful, the collaboration between UTB and NCL of NUS is in line with UTB’s vision of becoming a “Global University Impacting Society” and to respond to Brunei Darussalam’s vision as to be a SMART Nation. He also believes the relationship between UTB and NCL will lead to harnessing the benefits of growth and best practices that will lead to making strides in education, research and training programmes of mutual interest.
“SCI staff, especially staff and students under Computer Network and Security programme area will benefit a lot from this MoU especially on getting access to the Pentest of National Cybersecurity Lab (NCL). UTB staff, students and researchers can also make use of this opportunity to upskill their knowledge in pen testing and it is one of the important skills in this cyber dependent world”, he added.
Professor Kankanhalli said, “We are very pleased to partner with UTB by supporting its initiatives in cybersecurity related research, education, and training. It is our hope that the positive relationship that we expect to develop as a result of this MOU between UTB and NCL will spark further collaborations between UTB, NUS Computing and NUS in more areas.”
The newly signed MOU formalises the intention for staff and students of UTB and NCL to collaborate through joint academic, research and development activities, seminars and conferences, as well as the exchange of academic materials of mutual interest.
This collaboration will also provide UTB staff and students with access to NCL resources and infrastructure for training, capability development and skills deepening. This includes attachment opportunities at NCL.
