19 August 2019 – The United States (U.S.) Embassy in Brunei Darussalam launched the American Shelf at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Library. The American Shelf houses a collection of books donated by the U.S Embassy. Present to hand over the donation was the U.S. Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mr. Matthew J. Matthews.
His Excellency was welcomed by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Yang Mulia Awang Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Md. Taib. Also present at the event were the principal officers and staff from UTB and officers from the U.S. Embassy.
The event began with remarks from the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB and was followed by remarks from the U.S. Ambassador. The event continued with the U.S. Ambassador presenting the books to Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB who received on behalf of UTB and followed with the launching of the American Shelf.
A total of 243 books relating to United States were donated to UTB. The book collection comprises of Business and Entrepreneurship, Education, Careers, Innovation and Technology, American History, and American-English language resources.
The event concluded with a tour around the campus.
