13 August 2019 – The Industrial Lecture conducted by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) saw about 40 students from the Petroleum Engineering programme of Faculty of Engineering (FEng) at the Engineering Block of the campus.
The lecture on Well Intervention was delivered by Yang Mulia Mr. Raj Narayanasamy, Head of Wireline Service, a real veteran at BSP in using tools deep down inside oil and gas wells to prevent production loss, or to repair or maintain them. Mr. Raj and his team have maintained thousands of wells and worked on many of them even while they were producing oil and gas under immense pressure.
Well Intervention is where specialists run special/specific tools into the well to resolve the issue which is normally done with the well under pressure. The issue usually caused by down hole conditions that would affect its performance such as reduced production, change in well products and loss of production. This is when Well Intervention will be required.
BSP also donated laboratory equipment to UTB which is a set of wireline intervention tools for the students to practice with and to prepare them to work with actual oil field equipment.
