UTB Marks Completion of 30-Times Quran Reading with Khatam Ceremony
27 June 2016 - Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony to mark the completion of the 30-times Khatam Al-Quran Programme in conjunction with the 30-years establishment of the University. The event took place at the Multi-Purpose Hall, of UTB. The Programme was participated by a total of 1683 participants consisting of 172 academic and non-academic staff, and 1466 students. The collective reading of the holy Quran commenced at the start of Ramadhan. Present as the Guest of Honour at the ceremony was the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Associate Professor Dr. Hajah Zohrah Binti Haji Sulaiman.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the recitation of of Surah Ad-Dhuha until Surah An-Nas by the participants. Subsequently, Takhtim and Tahlil were read, and concluded with the Doa Khatam and Dikir Marhaban.
Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) was established in 1986 as Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB). In 2008, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to upgrade the institution to a University. The name of the University was changed from Institut Teknologi Brunei to Universiti Teknologi Brunei on 01 March 2016. To date, UTB has produced 5006 HND, Degree and Master’s graduates.
