UTB HOLDS THE 3RD COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

17 November 2018 –  The third Computational Intelligence in Information Systems international conference (CIIS 2018) was officially opened today by Yang Mulia Awang Mohamed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohamed Yunos, Permanent Secretary (Media and Cabinet) at the Prime Minister’s Office, at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library Complex, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).

Also present at the ceremony were Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB and the Honorary Chair & Advisor of the conference; Senior Government Officers; UTB Principle Officers; CIIS 2018 participants; invited guests; Staff and Students of the University.

The three-day conference themed ‘Data-Driven Innovation: New R&D Across Economy’ organised by the School of Computing and Informatics, UTB with INNS Brunei Regional Chapter, Springer, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), E-Government National Centre (EGNC), and Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry Brunei Darussalam (MEMI) as the technical Supports. The conference started from 16 to 18 November 2018. This year, CIIS 2018 is sponsored by Sprintville Technologies, BIBD, Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), AIA BR-Kelvin Pong, and Dynamik Technologies.

The opening ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa’ Selamat, followed by the Welcoming Remarks by Yang Mulia Dr. Au Thien Wan, Dean of School of Computing and Informatics.

The Guest of Honour also delivered his speech, and officiated the opening of CIIS 2018. Following the opening ceremony, the keynote papers were presented by Yang Mulia Professor Irwin King, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China entitled ‘The Smart Workforce with AI in Education’ and Professor Choi Jun Kyun, from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology with the title ‘Open Data Platform for Future Knowledge Eco-Society

CIIS provides an opportunity to research scholars, academicians, industrialists and research students to interact and share their experience and knowledge in the recent technological advancements in the field of Computing and Information Systems. The conference looks for significant contributions to all major fields of the Computing and Information Systems in theoretical and practical aspects, and brings together experts from industry, government, and academia, who has experienced in innovation, design and research. This conference also held a panel discussion, poster competition and data analytics workshop.

The panel discussion is newly introduced this year where it brings together representatives from the public sector stakeholders and academics who will share their local experiences and insights.

This conference is one of the several initiatives undertaken by the School of Computing and Informatics to foster a rich knowledge exchange and at the same time equip individuals with hands-on experience with data handling. This year over 41 submissions from 14 countries were received and after rigorous review 20 papers were accepted for the conference.
