VICE-CHANCELLOR WELCOMES NEW UTB STUDENTS

24 July 2018 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) today held a ‘Vice Chancellor’s Address’1 as part of the Orientation Week for the new student intake for the academic year 2018/2019. Present as the Guest of Honor was the Vice Chancellor, Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.

The event that took place at the Multi-Purpose Hall, UTB began with the recitation of verses from the Quran led by Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Qawi Ariq bin Haji Mohamed Hussain, a Mechanical Engineering student, while Yang Mulia Awg Muhamad Ridhwan bin Awg Sahari, Mechatronic Engineering student, read the lessons from the verses. This was followed by the Welcoming Address from the Vice Chancellor, Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.

In her address, Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman began with welcoming and congratulating the new students on becoming the official member of UTB. “It gives me a great pleasure to welcome all of you to our University, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, one of the newest, fastest and youngest University to be ranked in QS World University Ranking at no. 442 this year” said Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah.

She continued “While at UTB, please take the opportunity to learn and acquire new knowledge, develop soft skills and enhance your personal attributes in profound ways that will equip you for life after University and in work place.”

Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah also highlighted on UTB’s motto; Berilmu, Beramal dan Berinovas (Scholarly, Piety, and Innovative), where she urge the students to have or show knowledge, learning, or devotion to academic pursuits, and to encourage the students to instill MIB values and muslim students to perform solat berjemaah.

“Being innovative will require you to develop a culture of inquiry from the very beginning and this can be applied in your study especially when you are doing your undergraduate final year project or postgraduate thesis.”

She ended her address by thanking the Dean of Student Affairs, Staff of Student Affairs Section, President and Members of Student Representative Council and the committee members of their hard work to ensure the success of the event.

The event continued with the oath taking of the new students led by Ak Md Haziq Dzulfadhly Mubarak bin Pg Hj Md Amir Ilham. It was then continued by briefings from the Registrar’s Office and Student Affairs office. The new batch of students also met with the respective Programme Area staff lecturers and tour the campus before ending the day with the Student representatives Council (MPPUTB) Session.
