23 July 2018 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) hosts the 26th Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers (EDPSGO), and 26th Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO).
Attending as the Guest of Honour at the Opening Ceremony for the programmes was Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB. The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by the welcoming speech by Yang Mulia Dr Hjh Noor Maya binti Hj Md Salleh.
A total of 59 government officers have been chosen to participate in the programmes; 28 in EDPSGO, and 31 in EDPMMO.
In her speech, Dr Hjh Noor Maya began by thanking the Public Service Department and the Prime Minister’s Office for giving trust and opportunity to UTB to run the 26th Executive Development Programmes.
She also highlighted, UTB has achieved multiple success ever since it was upgraded to a university status in 2008, including being one of the youngest university to rank Top 500 in the QS World Ranking University 2019. Amongst the success factors includes feedback from stakeholders, hands-on learning, and a close relationship with industries to assist the students in learning. With these success factors, it will be applied in this year’s 26th EDP programme.
The ceremony continued with the speech by Yang Mulia Dr Norfarizal bin Othman, Acting Director General of Public Service Department. He began by congratulating the participants who have been chosen the Executive Development Programme. He said that one of the aims of the program is to polish leadership skills of the government officers to highlight their quality and capability of being a leader.
Dr Norfarizal also said that the program is focused on equipping the government officials with skills to lead an organisation, which will set them to become a more credible leader in the public service towards the Wawasan Negara 2035.
Amongst others the objectives of the programmes are to advance their strategic decision-making capabilities and deepen understanding of organizational dynamics to improve the design and implementation of new initiatives and avoid destructive conflict. The 28-week programmes will include lectures and talks, study visits, community outreach activities, and ‘Back-To-Office’ where participants will be attached at a different working environment for a month.
