15 March 2018 – Mayang Couture, one of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Homegrown start up business that offers personalized scarves for ladies as well as haute-vintage apparels has officially opened its boutique at the Library Complex, UTB.
The opening of the boutique was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB. The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Mulia Awang Mohamad Naqiuddin bin Awg Md Salleh, student from the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Finance and e-Business, followed by the official launching of the Boutique.
The founder of Mayang Couture, Nurul Izzati Naqibah binti Zaidi, a student from the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Technology Management, said that she is grateful and overwhelmed with excitement to open the boutique. “I thank UTB especially UTB School of Business for their endless support and encouragement for my scarf business and making this possible!” she said.
Nurul Izzati’s business has been growing ever since she started and she participated in a lot of events which include scarf making for His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee souvenirs.
“Not only with this kiosk, UTB has also given me the opportunity to participate in events such as the Pesta Konvo 2017, where Mayang Couture got the chance to introduce itself to the Crown Prince, and other events including the recent Higher Education Expo 2018 in Bridex which has increased the audience for Mayang Couture”.
Nurul Izzati also said “Alhamdulillah with the knowledge I gained from studying Business and Technology Management at UTB, I get to apply what I learned especially Marketing, Law and also in Information Technology (IT). I dreamed to be a fashion designer since I was little, with the help of UTB, and other agencies, I am able to make this business a reality”.
