28 October 2017 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held a closing ceremony of the fourth UTB Sports Fiesta 2017 today at the Multipurpose Hall, UTB. The sports fiesta was organised by the Executive Committee (EXCO) of Sports, of the Student Representative Council UTB (Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar UTB). It was held in conjunction with the UTB’s Fourth Convocation Festival 2017.
Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB was present as the Guest of honour at the Closing Ceremony. At the Ceremony, presentation of medals to the winners of each sports category was presented. The Vice-Chancellor later presented the trophy to the overall winner of the UTB Sports Fiesta 2017, Team Xlr8.
Earlier in the morning, a series of track events were held at the Stadium Padang & Belapan in Berakas. At the event, the Rumpun Team competed in the track and field performances.
In this year’s UTB Sports Fiesta 2017, new names were introduced to the ‘Rumpun Teams’, ‘Maju’, ‘Bersatu’, ‘Muafakat’, and ‘Membangun’ are now called ‘Team Xlr8’, ‘Team Pro-Xtiv’, ‘Team CrtiV’ and ‘Team XCel’ respectively.
The UTB Sports Fiesta 2017 was officially opened on 14 October 2017 at the Multipurpose Hall, UTB, by the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry & Services), Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Md Taib. The sports fiesta was participated by staff and students of UTB, and competed in 8 sports tournaments in Badminton, Basketball, Dodge ball, Frisbee, Futsal, Netball, Swimming, and Touch Rugby. They also compete in E-Sports games, Track and Fields, March Pass, Tarik Kalat, and Field Performance.
The event was aimed to elevate the university’s profile in sports, instilling solidarity and camaraderie amongst UTB staffs and students, and to identify sports talents for participation in future championships and tournaments at national and international level.
