UTB Science and Technology Week 2017 Winners Feted

12 September 2017 - Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held a Prize Presentation Ceremony for the winners of the Science and Technology Week 2017, and the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between UTB and Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd (PUSB). The ceremony took place at Lecture Theatre 2, UTB. The Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Mulia Ustaz Haji Abdul Malik bin Haji Jumat, from the Religious Affairs Office followed by a Welcoming Speech by Yang Mulia Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Mohd Taib, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Services) of UTB.

The ceremony continued with a briefing on the Cyber Battle Competition by Yang Mulia Shamsul Bahri Haji Kamis, the CEO of ITPSS Sdn Bhd, followed by a Multimedia Presentation showcasing the activities of the Science and Technology Week 2017.

Also present were, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hamdan Bin Haji Abu Bakar, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom Bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education; Deputy Permanent Secretaries; Acting Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam; Rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali; other senior officials; UTB’s Principal Officers; PUSB and; ITPSS’s senior management, and other industry partners.

It was then followed by the prize presentation to the winners and sponsors of the Science and Technology Week 2017.

The main sponsor for the Science and Technology Week 2017 is Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), while Bits N Bytes Company sponsored the prizes for the champions of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Challenge.

At the same ceremony, Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd renewed their corporation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The Signing Ceremony was witnessed by The Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education.

The renewed corporation includes, among others, sponsorship of research and development projects; joint supervision of student projects; sharing of knowledge and consultancy services in the form of expertise, information, testing and lab works; collaboration in roadshows and education fairs in promoting careers and education; to obtain industrial perspectives in the development of engineering programme structure in its effort to align with the needs of industry and accreditation requirements of relevant professional bodies and; industrial internships for UTB students in the areas of engineering.

Signing on behalf of UTB was the Vice-Chancellor, Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, and witnessed by the Registrar and Secretary, Yang Mulia Jennifer Hiew-Lim. Meanwhile, PUSB was represented by the Chairman and Managing Director of PUSB, Dato Paduka Hj Nordin bin Md Yussof, and witnessed by the General Manager and Director, Md Saney bin Hj Abd Halim.

Before leaving the ceremony, the Guest of Honour visited the Science and Technology Week 2017 Exhibition held at Library, and interacted with the participants and winners of the Science and Technology Week 2017.
