UTB signs MoU with TelBru to further opportunities for ICT education and employment
23 January 2017 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Telekom Brunei Berhad (Telbru) on 23 January 2017 to formalize the cooperation between the two organisations in furthering opportunities for ICT education and employment.
Attended by UTB’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Hajah Zohrah Binti Haji Sulaiman as the guest of honour alongside UTB’s Principal Officers and staff and TelBru’s senior management, the event that took place today (January 23, 2017) at Lecture Theatre 2 of the university witnessed the ormalization of the TelBru-UTB partnership that will establish several forms of collaboration over a five-year period.
Signing on behalf of TelBru was its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. David Kay, and witnessed by TelBru’s Head of Resourcing Dk. Surayani Binti Pg. Haji Tajuddin, whilst UTB was represented by the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Dr. Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Md Salleh and witnessed by UTB’s Director of Industry Liaison Office, Jennifer Voon Nyuk Hiong.
The collaboration includes, among others, the development and delivery of academic programmes as well as industry-based technical programmes related to the Telecommunications Engineering and ICT industries; conducting research and development projects related to telecommunications engineering and ICT; sharing of information and educational materials; staff exchange programmes and; student attachment and supervised work experience.
One inaugural research project that is being initiated between TelBru and UTB is in the areas of Internet of Things (IOT) and Smart applications, specifically using LoRA/IOT technologies.
Additionally, the MoU contains sponsorship opportunities to qualified candidates for enrolment into the programme. Under this MOU, TelBru will undertake several responsibilities that includes making available its resources, expertise and facilities for the academic programme; on-the-job training and; provide assistance and support for selected students’ final year projects as coordinated by the university.
